Our Training Difference

Our training classes use positive reinforcement training techniques. Our Seasoned Trainer is Deanna Scott; she follows the teachings of Dr. Ian Dunbar and other positive reinforcement trainers. She stresses the importance of socializing your dog to other dogs, children, and adults. Our trainer teaches you how to train your dog to be a good house companion. She describes her training philosophy:

"I believe in setting your dog up for success and rewarding your dog for getting it right! Using positive training helps to increase the human-canine bond and makes for a pleasant experience for owner and dog. Give your dog love and respect, and you will receive love and respect back. Your dog is part of your family. You try to give your family the best upbringing possible; now you can do the same for the canine members of your family."

We offer three different class options for your pup with Puppy Training, Basic Obedience Training and Canine Good Citizen Training.

Puppy Training

This training is for pups that are...

Puppy Classes are targeted for pups 8 weeks to less than 5 months of age.

How long is this training?

4-week curriculum
First week Orientation is on Zoom

What does this training include?

This training covers:

Introduction to socialization with people and other dogs in safe, controlled interactions
House manners and child-dog interaction
Positive reinforcement technique emphasized
Basic commands: come, sit, down, wait, leave it, take it, settle
Behavioral issues: house-training, jumping up, destructive chewing, excessive barking, leash-pulling, puppy biting, etc.

Basic Obedience Training

This training is for pups that are...

Basic Obedience class is targeted for pups over 5 months of age.

How long is this training?

6-week curriculum
First week Orientation is on Zoom

What does this training include?

This training covers:

Puppy class is not a prerequisite for this class
Curriculum may parallel Puppy Class, with the additions of stay, heel, and further behavior topics.

What next?

If you would like to continue your pup's training, you may want to consider signing up for the Canine Good Citizen Training.

Canine Good Citizen (CGC)

This training is for pups that are...

Canine Good Citizen (CGC) class is targeted for all of those pups that have successfully passed Basic Obedience Training. The training teaches 10 important skills designed to increase the bond between you and your dog, while you teach your dog basic canine manners and obedience. It does not have to be with us, but a certificate of successful passing is required for your dog to be considered a Canine Good Citizen.

How long is this training?

7-week curriculum

What does this training include?

The 10 skills taught in the CGC program:

Accepting a friendly stranger
Sitting politely for petting
Appearance and grooming
Out for a Walk (walking on a loose lead)
Walking through a crowd
Sit and down on command and Staying in place
Coming when called
Reaction to another dog
Reaction to distraction
Supervised separation

What next?

Once you have met all the requirements for the CGC, you can look into other more advanced training, like: therapy dog, agility, and rally obedience. Additionally, some homeowner’s insurance programs might offer a discount for CGC dogs. Lastly, some apartments and condos are starting to see the CGC award as a bonus for becoming a resident!

If your dog is under one year of age, AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy teaches the beginning CGC skills and is a stepping stone towards earning the CGC award.

Given the beautiful snow on the ground and forecast into tomorrow we *may* need to close tomorrow for daycare. For our Our grooming clients have already been notified that we will be rescheduling them. For our boarding clients. We have an onsite apartment where one of our team leads resides full time. He will be able to take care of the boarding pups we have currently staying with us. For those scheduled to pick up tomorrow we can arrange for that. We will update our page by 5AM Tuesday with a decision. We want to keep our staff safe traveling to and from work. We appreciate your understanding and support.

It’s puppy flu season! 🩺🐶🐾 Local veterinarians have advised us that Canine Influenza cases are on the rise. Please know that there have been NO CASES reported in our facility. Just like kids in daycare, if your pup isn’t feeling well, please stay home and skip a day of doggy daycare until your pup is feeling better. We encourage you to speak with your veterinarian about vaccination options and symptoms to look for to know if your pup is sick.
